Back From Your Fortune Teller, She Read Your Cards Upside Down

After eight weeks in NOLA, my internship is finished and my summer is coming to a close. I'm sad to leave this city, but I'm also excited to escape the humidity and get back to pastoral Williamstown. I haven't written in a while, so here is a large smattering of photos and good songs I've been enjoying.

And a delicious song that I had forgotten about until I found an old CD in the car - so nineties you can't say no.

Oh, and one afternoon I was heading home and trying to beat the thunderstorm looming overhead. I drove by a cemetary, and made a quick stop to take a few photos. Luckily I finished snapping before the rain began.

Nomming in Nola

Quick -- how much chicken are you going to eat this week? Not "some" or "for a few meals" - I mean the exact amount.

If you are like me and have no idea how to answer this question, then you probably have also had the pleasure of standing in the whole foods meat section, staring at the dozens of chicken breasts and feeling overwhelmed.

This type of question was not something I had considered until I became my own chef for most of my meals. I have cooked and baked a bunch in the past, but only when I really wanted to make a particular meal or felt inspired to cook. Cooking every meal about five days a week (even just for myself) is very different, as I soon found out when I moved down here for the summer.

I have a new respect for mothers who cook for their families - I can barely cook for myself!

It takes some time each week to find a couple of dinner recipes that are quick and delicious. I usually go with the basics for breakfast and lunch, but sometimes I try to mix those up as well.

Here is a large sampling of the food I've been enjoying the past few weeks. Also a song I have been enjoying - watch out, it's quite catchy.

Excuse Me Ma'am Can I Have Your Broom?

If you're ever feeling down and enjoy all things fluffy and cute, this video will lift your spirits! (you can tell I've been writing a lot of promo hooks recently, right?) This site has lots of live feeds for cute animals, but I think this random "weekly highlight" I came upon is my favorite:

Panda Cam "Weekly Highlights"

It looks something like this:
You're welcome.

Dollar Fortunes in the Quarter

Although it has stormed almost every afternoon, this week in New Orleans was just as great as the previous ones. I went down to the French Quarter yesterday to shop around and take photos (and nom some beignets), and I have been loading up my iphone with new music. Enjoy the new acquisitions:

[This first song reminds me of New Orleans in the summer]

Selah Sue - Crazy Vibes by Radio Francos

Zak Waters - Skinny Dipping In The Deep End(GRVRBBRS Remix) by GRVRBBRS

Bag Raiders - Shooting Stars by Seppdlx

I took this same photo before with my iphone, but I loved the layout so I upgraded it with my real camera.

And, In the Middle of the City, A Lighthouse

I recently started reading a novel set in New Orleans by my favorite author, Michael Ondaatje - the book is called Coming Through Slaughter. In other news, I have been enjoying work at the publishing company, cooking, and wandering around New Orleans.

Here are some songs and photos for your amusement (although let's be real, it's more for my own)

The Very Best - Kondaine (Unicorn Kid's Space Drift mix) by UNICORN KID
